Falling in Love with Learning

We strive to create lifelong learners by motivating students to discover their passions. At Rainier Foothills Academy, children explore, research and ask questions as opposed to passively receiving and recalling facts. Students are taught how to think and not what to think.

Personal Success

Students at Rainier Foothills Academy will be seen and heard. Each student is encouraged to share what they already know and it’s our job to refine and push the limits when it comes to their potential. Rainier Foothills Academy’s teacher-to-student ratios are about 1:8, with small classes of 10-12 students. With additional parent volunteers, we can support every child to reach their potential. Each student learns at different rates and at different times. At Rain, ier Foothills Academy teachers offer students multiple paths to reach their educational goals. Children are able to learn how they learn best.

Safe Keepers

Students help guide the direction of their studies by making the daily commitment to be a Safe Keeper. The promise goes as follows, I will be responsible, respectful, kind and safe in the classroom and to my learning. This provides the children with ownership of their learning as well as being personally invested. All children are encouraged to advocate for themselves and their values. We ask them to communicate their wants/needs and think deeply about the impacts of their choices. Children at Rainier Foothills Academy learn leadership skills, how to collaborate and how to be a part of their classroom community.

One Curriculum DOes Not Fit ALl

Teachers at Rainier Foothills Academy will shape the curriculum needs based on the various learning styles of their students. RFA teachers believe in following educational best practices and not those limited by outdated approaches. They have the professional freedom to modify or change the curriculum needed throughout the year. The teachers understand that no two learning styles are the same and different materials will be necessary for each student’s individual style.
